1981: Rocky Hill
These paintings do not come from my mind. They came from my spirit, from my emotions during the days and events where the sacred pipe was arriving in Connecticut. They were made in various places.
The paintings are another side of the story, a part of the story very different from the words of the story. They are offered by virtue of their distinct impression of those events, at that time.
This painting is about the sacred powers of women, a power that is waiting to be fully realized. The women of the Five Tribes were very powerful and made an important contribution to every ceremony and meeting about the sacred pipe. It was because of a particular woman and her clarity with the sacred that this sacred pipe was passed over to the person who became the keeper and protector of the Long River Pipe.
